The Altar Painting

 

The altar painting is the Ascension of Christ, painted in oil on canvas by Jonas Olof Grafstrom in 1902.

The painting shows 11 disciples, as Jesus' ascension occurred between the time when Judas Iscariot hanged himself and the time when Matthias was chosen as his successor.

It was donated by the Luther League youth group. They organized a benefit concert in the Orion Opera House to raise funds for the new church. The reserved seat ticket price was 35 cents, and general admission seats were 25 cents.

The painting underwent a conservation in 2024. It was professionally repaired and cleaned by The Conservation Center.
